Vision: To reconnect people with the healing intelligence of nature by bridging traditional wisdom, hands-on practice, and scientific inquiry—empowering individuals and communities to reclaim wellness through education, creativity, and care.
Mission: We create multi-sensory transformative learning experiences that blend natural remedy-making, ecological knowledge, and evidence-based research. Through workshops, products, and community-building, we inspire holistic self-care, promote health sovereignty, and cultivate a deeper relationship between people and the natural world.
Our Story: This project was born from a walk—and a friendship.
Two years ago, through answering a job ad, Guillermo and Sophia met and began taking regular walks together. These simple moments turned into a deep exchange of knowledge and support: Sophia, with her background in herbalism and experience leading wellness workshops, introduced Guillermo to the healing properties of local plants. Guillermo, trained in sports science, offered structured exercise knowledge—adapting physical health to individual needs.
But their connection grew beyond shared interests. Guillermo, who is severely deaf-blind, often struggled to access the kind of meaningful support he needed—even from organizations meant to serve people with similar conditions. Sophia stepped in to support him not only as a communicator, but as a collaborator, especially when Guillermo secured a rare research opportunity with the Macular Society to study how nutrition effects the progression of Macular Degeneration. Due to the nature of his condition, communication with Guillermo required a multisensory approach to communication and an ability to experiment, which they both do well together. She contributed her skills in data analysis and communication, helping to bring his findings to life.
Through their work and lived experiences, Guillermo and Sophia identified a major gap in the healthcare system: people with visual impairments—particularly those who are also deaf or neurodiverse—often lack access to integrated physical, mental, and emotional care. In 2024, a collaborative project with Sussex University and Wakehurst (Kew Gardens) gave them the opportunity to see how bringing visually impaired people and their supporters into nature, could uplift their spirits and create meaning and community together.
Through these experiences, they have begun to design multisensory workshops created for people with and without vision impaIn collaboration with Guillermo Romero [@deafblindwill], the Baresense Project is a new multisensory workshop series designed especially for visually impaired communities—though everyone is welcome.
These workshops explore how plant allies and breathwork can support mental health, with a special focus on anxiety, depression, and sensory connection.
We begin with “Serenity in a Jar”, where participants create personalized smelling salt jars through a tactile, aromatic journey rooted in emotional wellness.
